7th Annual Change the Status Quo Conference: A Student's Role in Shaping Society

The event is designed to educate and network student activists on multiple issues and bring together people who share a passion for making a difference in their community and the world. The conference encourages students to challenge stereotypes, demand solutions, and use education to make lasting changes. The workshops will offer insight into social issues as well as tangible ways for students to become part of the solution.

Achievement Gap Summit

This summit will bring together educators from across the state to address a major crisis facing public schools in California and throughout the nation: the systemic gap between our highest- and lowest - performing students. In an effort to narrow this achievement gap, teachers, administrators, policymakers, and others are invited to hear from experts as well as to propose workable solutions for improving academic achievement for all students. This issue is a critical one for Californians. Please join us in this coordinated effort to improve student achievement at all levels and eliminate the achievement gap.

Annual Asian American Issues Conference

The day begins with an introduction from our prestigious keynote speaker, then continues with various workshops hosted by student organizations and other professionals. During lunch there will be an opportunity to network with the speakers attending the conference as well as a research forum on various Asian American Issues. After dinner, the conference concludes with a concert in which various Asian American artists will perform. All meals are provided and housing is available for those who request it! Everything is free!

Annual Empowering Women of Color Conference

Revolutionary Love from “me” to “we” Redefining Intimacy and Activism. Our vision of creativity and art means movement toward: an understanding of art that redefines the connection for women of color among mind, body, and spirit; artistic expressions as cultural resistance to oppression; a unity among women of color that allows for identity difference; exposing and exploring the ways in which institutions shape our access to art; listening to and advocating for the artistic needs of queer, intersex and transgender people; research and scholarship on artistic issues that are particularly significant for women of color; individual and community models of using artistic forms to heal from systemic violence and trauma; understanding the intersections among issues of art, poverty, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, militarism and imperialism; advocating for balance within personal and professional artistic boundaries; exploring the ways in which artistically minded amateur artists can transition into the professional world of art; and embracing women of color's familial roles and supporting the mother, wife, girlfriend, partner, daughter, niece, grandmother, and friend that is found in all of us.

Annual Ethnic Studies Conference

The goal of the conference is to promote and introduce high school students to Ethnic Studies and higher education while grounding them in their own leadership and power. We believe that there is a crucial need to readdress history and to provide education that empowers our people to fight for justice. We also believe in promoting and modeling transformative and holistic education practices where young people learn the history of their ancestors and their peers, develop their leadership skills and empower them to take charge of their education and lives. We hope the conference will spark interest among students so they can further develop their activism and consider Ethnic Studies as their field of study. This conference has always been a collaborative effort between community and campus organizations. Annual Harvard University Public Policy and Leadership Conference

The John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University offers the annual spring conference for first and second year undergraduate college students who are interested in pursuing professional careers in public service. These include careers in federal, state or local government, and work in the nonprofit sector or in international agencies. Our goal is also to provide information on various fellowship opportunities. The conference aims to attract students from groups under-represented in public policy and international affairs in an effort to increase the diversity of students receiving these professional degrees. The conference will help prepare future leaders for study in public policy, particularly those from historically under-served communities and people of color. Participants receive paid travel, accommodations, and meals. Conference participants will be selected based on good academic standing, as well as demonstrated commitment to public service.  Commitment to public service will be measured through student leadership and activism, participation in the civic aspects of school or community, and volunteer commitments in high school and college. ASES spring symposium: Student Voices and Statistics: New Perspectives on Undergraduate Diversity at Cal

The symposium will share both statistical information on dimensions of undergraduate diversity and individual student accounts of experiences of diversity at Cal as reported on the spring 2007 Berkeley University of California Undergraduate Experience Survey (UCUES).  The combination of student reports and extensive new statistical data will provide new perspectives on undergraduate diversity and help inform our efforts to enhance the undergraduate experience for all our students. This event is coordinated by Academic Support and Enrichment Services.  It is co-sponsored by the Center for Educational Partnerships, the Divisions of Equity & Inclusion, Undergraduate Education, and Student Affairs, the College of Letters and Science, and the Center for Studies in Higher Education.  Special thanks are extended to the Student Learning Center and Student Life Advising Services/EOP.

Berkeley Sustainability Summit

Beyond the Ballot: Making the Movement Matter

We must ask "what kind of change" and "what can we do?"  To answer these questions, the Young Democratic Socialists is hosting, "Beyond the Ballot: Making the Movement Matter," a national three-day conference that will bring together progressive youth and movement veterans to discuss strategies for the new terrain on which we struggle. 

California Asian Pacific Islander Policy Summit

The National Conference on LGBT Equality: Creating Change is the premier national grassroots organizing and skills building LGBT conference. Each year the conference is held in a different region of the United States and attracts 2,500+ participants from within and outside of the LGBT community. The conference is well known for providing a unique environment where activists and leaders come together from diverse places and backgrounds to create a community that is both strengthening and inspiring to the participants. East Coast Conference on Hunger and Homelessness

Join hundreds of students from across the country who are committed to ending hunger, homelessness, and poverty in America and abroad, for and exciting and educational weekend with other college students working on these issues. Throughout the conference weekend, you will learn from some of the top activists, organizers, and advocates in the U.S. Plus, you will be able to meet other students who are already organizing around these issues and first time volunteers.  Each year’s conference is broken into several issue tracks focused on some of the most pressing poverty-related issues including: Hunger and Food Distribution, Housing and Homelessness, International Development and Trade, Humanitarian Crises such as the conflict in Darfur, Sudan, and Hurricane Katrina Recovery Efforts.

International Youth Volunteerism Summit

Northwestern University hosts the annual International Youth Volunteerism Summit. Bringing together big-thinking undergrads, NGO representatives, young social entrepreneurs and academic experts, the Summit will introduce major problems of direct international engagement while building its delegates' capacities to more successfully act as catalysts of sustainable progress. Keynote speakers and panel discussions introduce delegates to overarching issues faced by international volunteers, while practical workshops build particular skills sets like grant writing and business planning necessary to international organizational planning. IYVS is unique among its peers in that it provides outcome funding for projects created by its delegates.  In 2006, IYVS provided two packages worth $10,000 total for projects initiated by student delegates
 

National Conference for College Women Student Leaders

During this fast-paced, energizing conference students will hear exciting keynote speakers and meet inspiring Women of Distinction Award recipients.  Former awardees have included playwright, performer, and activist Eve Ensler; Olympic medalist Dominique Dawes; and activist and author Rebecca Walker.  Participate in workshops focusing on advocacy, leadership, health and wellness, and "real world" issues like financial literacy and post-college life. National Service-Learning Conference

NYLC and Volunteer Tennessee invite you to join us in Nashville, Tennessee for The 20th Annual National Service-Learning Conference at the Nashville Convention Center, March 18-21, 2009! The conference is the largest gathering of youths and practitioners involved in the service-learning movement, drawing approximately 2,700 attendees from across the United States and at least 20 other countries each year. Through three days of general sessions, featured forums, and service-learning projects, the conference engages participants in local, national, and global issues that service-learning addresses. It provides networking opportunities with service-learning leaders through more than 150 experiential workshops, receptions, and informal meetings.



Los Angeles Queer Studies Conference

LA Queer Studies Conference is the successor to the QGrad conferences held annually at UCLA beginning in 1999. Although we have abandoned the conference for graduate students only, we have encouraged substantial graduate student participation, since one of the goals of the current format is to foster the exchange of ideas between graduate student and faculty scholars. The conference is free and open to the public.

ReachingOut MBA Conference

The world’s premier conference for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) students earning their MBA. Please join us in congratulating the team from the Georgetown University-McDonough School of Business, the George Washington University and the University of Virginia-Darden School of Business for being selected as the organizers of the 2008 Reaching Out LGBT MBA Conference! San Francisco Green Festival

The Green Festival is coming up this November!  The San Francisco Green Festival is a showcase of green energy and sustainability, from speakers and music to workshops and community groups, a nice mix between conference and expo. It's just a weekend and we need volunteers to cover some specific shifts.  All volunteers get free admission to the festival as well as an organic cotton t-shirt.

Social Justice Symposium

The idea for the Social Justice Symposium was born in the spring of 2006 out of students' concerns that the spring semester begins the day after Martin Luther King, Jr. Day without the School of Social Welfare communally recognizing his impact and legacy. A group of interested students worked together to plan a day that celebrates the memory of Martin Luther King, Jr. and his fight for a more just world by highlighting some of the social justice issues frequently dealt with in this line of work and how to address them. We hope that  the Social Justice Symposium of following years will build on the success of the inaugural Symposium in January 2007.

UC Berkeley Social Justice Student Leadership Conference

The University of California, Berkeley hosts the annual Social Justice Student Leadership Conference (SJSLC)! The SJSLC is an immersion experience for residence hall leaders that will explore issues of power and privilege as related to topics of social justice. Through a balance of both theory and application, we will challenge participants to examine systems of oppression, issues of identity, and the interconnectedness of the individual, group and community through use of the Social Change Model of Leadership. It is their hope that this conference brings together the voices of college residence hall leaders around the country who are passionate about and willing to examine issues of social justice, especially in relation to their positions as leaders in their communities
 
UCSA Student Lobby Conference (SLC)
