Asha Jaini Emerging Leaders Scholarship

Eligibility: Undergraduate Students (No Graduating Seniors)
Deadline: Early May

This scholarship is intended to give an emerging leader the opportunity to build skills and develop her or his commitment to public service and the Asian Pacific American community. While the other stipends are more heavily weighted toward demonstrated leadership, this award intends to recognize leadership potential and utilize the Washington Leadership Program, a Washington D.C. internship experience and shared learning with other CAPAL scholars in nurturing and developing an emerging student leader. Strong applicants in this category will be able to articulate why they think of themselves as emerging leaders, their ambitions for the future and how a CAPAL summer experience will benefit those ambitions and their local community. AMERICAN METEOROLOGICAL SOCIETY (AMS) UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS
Eligibility: Undergraduates
Deadline: Early February
The AMS/Industry Undergraduate Scholarships encourage outstanding undergraduate students to pursue careers in the atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic sciences.  Two categories of students are eligible: 1.) Students enrolled or planning to enroll in a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in the atmospheric or related oceanic or hydrologic sciences; 2.) Students who are enrolled in a program leading to a bachelor's degree in science or engineering who have demonstrated a clear intent to pursue a career in the atmospheric or related oceanic or hydrologic sciences following completion of appropriate specialized education at the graduate level. AMS encourages applications from women, minorities, and disabled students who are traditionally underrepresented in the atmospheric and related oceanic sciences. Award Amount: $3,000-$23,000

American Physical Society (APS) Scholarships for Minority Undergraduate Physics Majors 

Eligibility: Freshman and Sophomores Undergraduates Only
Deadline: Early February
American Physical Society Scholarship for Minority Undergraduate Physics Majors' goal of this program is to encourage minority students to major in physics and graduate with physics degrees. The scholarship may be renewed one time. Award Amount: $2,000 ($3,000 for renewal recipients) To be eligible, you must be African-American, Hispanic American, or Native American U.S. citizen or permanent resident who is majoring or planning to major in physics.

ARMY ROTC Scholarships
Eligibility: Undergraduate Students
Deadline: Late January
The Army ROTC Scholarships offers several scholarships to students interested in serving the United States Military.  Scholarships may be awarded throughout the academic year. Awards range from two to three years and are open to all highly qualified men and women.  All scholarships are based solely on merit and offer several benefits: full tuition, books, supplies, lab fees, uniform costs, and a subsistence allowance. Award Amount: Tuition up to $20,000, $900/yr.  for books, and $250-400/mo stipend. For further information and requirements, please contact: Capt. Barbara Furse Mackey Scholarship
Eligibility: Undergraduate and Graduate Continuing Students
Deadline: Early February
The Barbara Furse Mackey Scholarship is for continuing education for California women whose education has been interrupted and who wish to return to college or graduate school.
 The scholarship may be renewed for up to four years. The applicant must fit the criteria of being a California resident, studying in any of a variety of fields, a demonstrated financial need, and an integrity of character, scholastic ability, and school/community activities.

Beinecke Scholarship
Eligibility: Juniors Only
Deadline: TBA
The prestigious Beinecke Brothers Memorial Scholarship provides $32,000 to juniors planning to pursue graduate study in the arts, humanities, or social sciences. Recipients will receive $2,000 prior to entering graduate school and $15,000 per year for the first two years of graduate study. Students must apply as juniors.

Boren Scholarships
Eligibility: Undergraduate students
Deadline: Early February
Boren Scholarships provide up to $20,000 to U.S. undergraduate students to study abroad in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin American, and the Middle East. The countries of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are excluded.

Brower Youth Awards
Eligibility: Undergraduate Students
Deadline: Mid May
The Brower Youth Awards were established by the Earth Island Institute to honor founder and lifelong environmentalist, David R. Brower, and to recognize and celebrate a new generation of young leaders who are following in his footsteps. Students age13 to 22 who live in the U.S., District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico and have demonstrated outstanding and innovative leadership with projects in environmental Conservation, Preservation, or Restoration (CPR) are eligible.

CAA's Alumni Scholarships
The Achievement Award Program 
Eligibility: Incoming Freshmen and Junior Transfers Only

Deadline: Application available 1st Day of December

Each year, highly qualified and community-minded students with a proven track record of academic success, gain admission to Berkeley but cannot afford to attend. TAAP offers these students substantial scholarship funding and support services to provide the opportunity of a Berkeley education. TAAP is a four-year scholarship program for incoming first-year students and a two-year scholarship program for incoming junior transfer students.

The Leadership Award Alumni Scholarship  
Eligibility: Undergraduate Students

Deadline: Applications available 1st Day of December

Established in 1934, the Leadership Award Alumni Scholarship is one of the most prestigious merit-based scholarships at UC Berkeley. The Leadership Award is a one-year, merit-based scholarship that recognizes Cal students who demonstrate innovative, motivational leadership impacting their academic, work, or community environments. Students compete for the scholarship every academic year.

Clair A. Hill Scholarship
Eligibility: Sophomore, junior or senior
Deadline: Early February
The Association of California Water Agencies awards $5,000 to a qualified student who demonstrates commitment to the field of water resources by pursuing a degree related to engineering, agricultural, and/or urban water supply, environmental studies or public administration.    The award is based not only on scholastic achievement, but also on the individual’s commitment and motivation to his/her chosen vocation, all in consideration of financial need.

Clan Donald Scholarship for University Study in Scotland
Eligibility: Senior and Graduate Student
Deadline: Early February
Clan Donald Educational and Charitable Trust, in order to promote the relationship between Scotland and the United States, is offering a scholarship for graduate study at a Scottish University. The Trust will require assurance that the scholar has available sufficient funds to pay the balance of the cost of a year's study, provided the student obtains admission to a Scottish university.

DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) Undergraduate Scholarship 

Eligibility: Junior, Senior or Graduate Student
Deadline: Late January
Highly qualified undergraduate students are invited to apply for scholarships funding study, senior thesis research and/or internships in Germany. The goal of this program is to support study abroad in Germany and at German universities. Preference will be given to students whose projects or programs are based at and organized by a German university. Scholarships are available either as part of an organized study abroad program or as part of an individual, student-designed study abroad semester or year.
 

Daughters of the Revolution (DAR) Scholarships

Eligibility: Graduating High School Students, Undergraduate and Graduate Students
Deadline: Various
The NSDAR awards multiple scholarships to students showing dedication to the pursuit of degrees in diverse disciplines including history, law, nursing, and education. The DAR Scholarship Committee awards scholarships to qualified applicants regardless of race, religion, sex or national origin. All multi-year scholarships, typically renewable up to four years, must be for consecutive years of attendance at an accredited college or university in the United States.

 
Donald A. Strauss Scholarship
Eligibility: Juniors Only

Deadline: Early February
The Strauss Foundation awards $10,000 scholarships to juniors to fund a public service project proposed by the scholarship recipient. A portion of the scholarship may be used towards the recipient’s tuition, fees, books, or room and board. The Eben Tisdale Fellowship
Eligibility: Undergraduate and graduate students
Deadline: Mid February

The Eben Tisdale Fellowship, which includes a $5,000 grant, is a summer internship available to undergraduate and graduate students where the high-tech sector meets the government. The program offers outstanding opportunities for students to learn about high tech public policy issues with hands-on experience in Washington, D.C. Tisdale Fellowships are open to students from colleges and universities all over the country. The Dell Thurmond Woodard Fellowship, which includes one $5,000 grant for one student each year, is part of the Tisdale Fellowship program. Any student, undergraduate or graduate, who is interested in diversity and ethics issues, and in learning about high tech public policy issues, can apply for this Fellowship.

Ella Lyman Cabot Trust Grant

Eligibility: Undergraduates and Graduate Students
Deadline: Mid February
The Cabot Trust awards grants ($7,000 - $12,000) to support strategic, meaningful projects that will help others.  Applicants should contact the Trust in writing to request application guidelines. Award Amount: $7,000 - $12,000

Erika J. Glazer Family Scholarship Fund
Eligibility: High School, Undergraduate Students
Deadline: Early March

Established by Erika J. Glazer Trust of 1985, the Erika J. Glazer Family Scholarship Fund will awards several multi-year scholarships to academically qualified AB540 students attending either California State University, Los Angeles or California State University, Dominguez Hills. Federal Asian Pacific American Council Scholarship
Eligibility:  Undergraduate Students
Deadline: Late March

The purpose of this award program is to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to the advancement of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) and the promotion of equal opportunity in the Federal and D.C. Government work force and the AAPI community. The Award Categories are: Outstanding Individual Leadership: Individual who has shown bold leadership and innovative ways in promoting Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Affirmative Action and Diversity. Excellence in Individual Achievement: Individual who has shown greatest contribution toward the AAPI representation at all levels as compared to the total AAPI population as a whole. Diversity Excellence: Individual who has shown a remarkable contribution towards diversity against all odds. Frances M. Peacock Scholarship For Native Bird Habitat

Eligibility: Seniors and Graduate Students
Deadline:  Mid January
This scholarship provides financial aid to a college senior or graduate student to study in the areas in the United States that provide winter or summer habitat for our threatened or endangered native birds. The award is given by the Garden Club of America and is administrated by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.

Frank Newman Leadership Award
Eligibility: Undergraduate Students 
Deadline: Late March
The Frank Newman Leadership Award provides financial support and mentorship to assist students achieve their civic and academic goals. Two $5,000 awards are available to undergraduate students at Campus Compact member colleges and universities.

Garden Club of America Scholarships
Eligibility: Undergraduate and Graduate
Deadline: Various
The purpose of The Garden Club of America is to stimulate the knowledge and the love for gardening, to share the advantages of association by means of educational meetings, conferences, correspondence and publications, and to restore, improve, and protect the quality of the environment through educational programs and action in the fields of conservation and civic improvement.

 
Gay & Lesbian Alumni Scholarships
Eligibility: Undergraduate and Graduate Students
Deadline: Late September

$1000 award to recognize students who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender, and/or have demonstrated leadership in the gay community. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and leadership in campus, community or job activities. U.S. citizenship or permanent residency status is required. Applications are available in September. Goldwater Scholarship
Eligibility: Sophomores and Juniors Only
Deadline: Early December

Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship provides $7,500 per year for educational expenses to outstanding sophomores and juniors majoring in mathematics, sciences, and engineering. The purpose of the award is to encourage top students to pursue careers and advanced degrees in these fields. A UC Berkeley campus committee selects Berkeley's nominees before applications are forwarded to the Goldwater Foundation.

Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship
Eligibility: Seniors or Graduate Students
Deadline: Early February
The Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship is designed to encourage women to excel in computing and technology and become active role models and leaders. Scholarships will be awarded based on the strength of candidates' academic background and demonstrated leadership. Award Amount: $10,000. To be eligible, you must: be studying in the fields of computer science, computer engineering, or related technical field majors, have a minimum GPA of 3.5.

Haas-Koshland Memorial Award
Eligibility: Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors, Graduate Students
Deadline: Early February

This award provides the opportunity of for one year of study and personal development in Israel beginning in the summer or fall of the next year. The award is open to college students, from sophomore year through graduate school, who are from, or attend school in the San Francisco Bay Area and wish to broaden their personal life, academic life or both.

Harry S. Truman Scholarships
Eligibility: Juniors Only
Deadline: Late November
$30,000 awards: $3,000 for the senior year and $27,000 for graduate study for students committed to public service. U.S. citizens of any age who are in the upper quarter of their class (usually a minimum 3.5 GPA) are eligible to apply. Applicants must have outstanding academic and service records and plan to pursue graduate programs geared toward public service. The application deadline is mid-November. Institute for Humane Studies Film & Fiction Scholarships
Eligibility: Undergraduate and Graduate Students Only
Deadline: Mid January

Pursuing a Master of Fine Arts degree in filmmaking or fiction writing in the 2009-10 academic school year? Passionate about liberty? Apply for one of our Film and Fiction Scholarships! Over the past eight years, the Institute for Humane Studies awarded more than $250,000 to students pursuing graduate work in Film Directing, Production, Screenwriting, and Prose Fiction Writing. IHS provides this support to promising young filmmakers and writers who share an appreciation for the potential and promise of a free society.

International Foundation for Gender Education Transgender Scholarship
Eligibility: Part-time or full time Undergraduate Students
Deadline:  Early January

Each scholarship provides supplemental funding for post-secondary students who have a demonstrated ability in and commitment to affecting change in the transgender communities through their commitment to working and being educated in the helping and caring professions. These include, but are not limited to, Social Services, Health Care, Religious Instruction (all denominations), Teaching and the Law.

Jack Kent Coke Graduate Scholarship Program

The Jack Kent Coke Graduate Scholarship Program awards up to $50,000, annually for up to six years. The scholarship seeks to support exceptional students with financial need who are enrolling in graduate school.

Jenzabar Foundation 2009 Student Leadership Awards
Eligibility: Undergraduate
Deadline: Late March
The mission of The Jenzabar Foundation is to recognize and support the good works and humanitarian efforts of student leaders serving others across the global community.  The Foundation seeks to foster a culture of service and to educate and inspire future generations to create a better world. The Jenzabar Foundation 2009 Student Leadership Awards will recognize student leaders who have made a significant impact by helping to make the world a better place outside of their educational communities, either through work with a campus group or other recognized non-profit organization.
