Although EGC was initially housed at Stiles Hall in Berkeley, the program received federal funding in 1972 to become a Department of Education TRiO Talent Search program. In 1997 EGC became a part of University of California, Berkeley's Center for Educational Outreach.

Today EGC serves 11 high schools and 3 middle schools in the West Contra Costa, Berkeley and Oakland Unified School Districts. EGC's current annual budget as allotted by the US Department of Education is $661,369.00.
