We will be educating our future leaders while at the same time raising substantial resources for organizations that have a sustainable approach to the end of hunger. We believe hunger can be ended in our lifetime and we want to communicate to our fellow students that it is our responsibility to make sure it happens by getting involved. At UC Berkeley’s FeelGood Deli, nothing will have a price. We believe in the innate goodness of people and we will only accept donations. To show our appreciation to our fellow students and faculty, we are going to “give away” gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches. Our main product is gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches sold for a donation. We also sell low-production and local snacks, and FeelGood apparel. In the long-term, this will set up an inter-disciplinary mentality, so necessary to tackle the pressing scientific problems of the future. Secondly, UGSA seeks to set up an environment wherein students can help other students. Being a science major at a huge public institution can be quite daunting, as there are tons of other students within the same major and limited resources to provide guidance. To this end, we seek to set up an organizational structure that will allow students to help each other find research opportunities and get academic/career-related guidance, both formally and informally.
