Purpose: AEZ strives to enhance its brothers' many skills and characteristics such as interpersonal abilities, confidence, and articulation. Cal Slam ()

Purpose: The UC Cal Slam is one of the last bastions for creative expression on the Berkeley campus. We host a poetry slam in the Multicultural Center (Heller Lounge in MLK), and anyone can perform. For the uninitiated, a poetry slam is an oral poetry competition in which poets bring to the mic their original work, and are given scores based on their writing and performance from judges (picked randomly from the audience) on a scale of 1-10. In general, poetry slams are loud, high-energy, and brashly honest--it ain't your parents' poetry reading.

Fei Tian Dancers (FTD)

Purpose: UC Berkeley's only Chinese dance performing group, Fei Tian Dancers (FTD), strives to cultivate an on-campus atmosphere that welcomes and appreciates the abundant diversity of the Berkeley community. FTD performs at many functions in Berkeley and around the Bay Area, showcasing the multifarious ethnic dances of China.

The Chinese people consists of more than 50 ethnic minorities, and each group's cultures and lifestyles are illustrated and expressed through the performing arts. FTD provides an opportunity for all those interested to enhance their Chinese ethnic dance techniques and skills.

While the performing group forms the core of Fei Tian Dancers, the group also facilitates a Beginning Chinese Dance DeCal every semester and hosts free monthly workshops. Everyone is invited to join the DeCal and come to these workshops, regardless of gender, ethnicity, or dance experience.

Friends of Northern Uganda (F.N.U)

Purpose: The purpose of this group is to bring awareness to the University of California, Berkeley campus and the surrounding community in regards to the war and the use of child soldiers in Northern Uganda, as well as to foster international relations through the implementation of a pen-pal system. We will provide support for affected families of the war through contact in the form of letters, advocacy on their behalf, and possibly fund-raising. We will work closely with the Concerned Parents Association, a non-governmental organization in Northern Uganda, to achieve our goals.

Purpose: Cal’s World Peace Buddhists is affiliated with the SGI, Soka Gakkai (Value-Creating Society) International, a world-wide Buddhist organization with 12 million members in 190 countries and territories. They often pride themselves on their diversity, and their ability to empower and unite individuals regardless of social standing, racial and ethnic differences. The club and organization is founded on Nichiren Daishonin’s Buddhism that focuses on the individual’s ability to become Buddha’s, or enlightened individuals with the qualities of courage, compassion, wisdom, and life force. The motivating force of the club and organization is a desire that everyone carries—the desire to be happy— that serves as a driving source in transforming one’s life and ultimately society and the world.
