Atheists and Skeptics Society at Berkeley (BASS)

Purpose: BASS is a group for those interested in issues that affect Atheists, agnostics, skeptics, humanists, and other secular identities. BASS’s primary goals are: to provide for the personal and intellectual growth of its membership, to provide a safe and open forum for the discussion of sensitive issues pertaining to religion and atheism, to provide an inclusive social setting based on a secular worldview, and to raise consciousness of atheism and secularism in the campus community, and in the world as a whole. Though science and empiricism have often been criticized as robbing the world of its beauty, BASS firmly believes that a worldview based on scientific inquiry and empiricism will create a more beautiful world than one created by superstition and scientific ignorance. To quote Richard Dawkins, “There’s real poetry in the real world; science is the poetry of reality.” If you have any questions, please email Jak, Liana or Tom.
