Investigation

The Office of Student Conduct will conduct an investigation of complaints or reports of misconduct and determine whether sufficient evidence exists to pursue charges against the student. Investigations generally begin with a meeting with the conduct officer. If the student chooses to exercise his/her right to an advisor, the advisor may accompany the student to this initial meeting with the conduct officer. In this first meeting, the conduct officer will:

a.) Review policies, procedures and student rights
b.) Give the student the opportunity to review the details of the case

Besides meeting with the student, the conduct officer may need to investigate further by contacting witnesses, receiving documents, and other investigative steps. Based on the results of the investigation, the conduct officer will decide if there is enough evidence to support official charges using preponderance of evidence as the burden of proof.
