Promoting integrity, civility and responsibility in our community.

Integrity

An academic community can thrive only when it adheres to the highest values of academic as well as personal integrity: honesty, fairness, trust, respect and accountability. Fostering an educational environment that values academic as well as personal integrity is essential to the intellectual and social development of students and the advancement of knowledge.

(Taken and modified from Student Conduct section of GSI module)

Civility

In an academic community civility "is more than merely being polite. . . . It is about constantly being open to hear, to learn, to teach and to change. It seeks common ground as a beginning polint for dialogue when differences occur, while at the same time recognizes that differences are enriching. It is patience, grace and strength of character."

(Pieces extracted and quoted from Institute for Civility in Government webpage)

Responsibility

"An Academic community of integrity upholds accountability and depends upon action in the face of wrongdoing. Every member of an academic community -student, group/organization, faculty member and staff- is responsible for upholding the integrity of the community."
