2007-2008 Future Leaders Program

The Future Leaders Program was developed to provide a leadership development experience around the unique life experiences of outstanding transfer student leaders and scholars.

The UC Berkeley Committee on Undergraduate Scholarships and Honors (CUSH) identify top incoming transfer students from community colleges across the state of California based on high academic achievement, strong involvement in their community, and demonstrated leadership potential.

If selected, students are offered a scholarship (renewable for a second year) to participate in the program that will enhance their student leadership competencies through self-reflection, experiential learning, exploration of group versus team dynamics, cross-cultural communication, critical dialogue and discourse, and civic engagement.

Phoebe Lehr is a transfer student from Cabrillo College who plans to major in Philosophy.  She learned the beauty of physical expression at an early age after being exposed to dance.  Phoebe choreographed and auditioned two pieces in the spring of 2004 and continued to choreograph for her entire three years at Cabrillo College.  In the fall of 2005, Phoebe was asked to choreograph the musical "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" which illuminated her ability to implement her creative vision and work with large groups of people with different levels of dancing experience.  She loves teaching and has recently been recruited to teach an eight-week workshop for teens to expose them to new forms of dance, while helping to expand their minds.  Phoebe believes that choreographing, dancing, and teaching while purusing her academic interests is the ideal equilibrium to satisfy her scholastic and artistic sides.
