What is a Service and Peace Fellowship?
The Service and Peace Fellowship is a year-long intensive experiential-learning internship sponsored by the Shinnyo-en Foundation (www.sef.org) and the Cal Corps Public Service Center. The Fellowship is an opportunity for students deeply interested in peace-building and sustainable social change to explore the relationship between acts of service and their own spiritual development. Two Fellows from UC Berkeley will work in partnership with Cal Corps and the Shinnyo-en Foundation to offer workshops and forums for students to reflect on the meaning, values, and visions behind their service. A primary focus for the fellows is to support the Foundation's Six Billion Paths to Peace Initiative (www.sixbillionpaths.org) by continuing to integrate the message and work of this initiave into campus programs and communities.

About the Shinnyo-en Foundation
The Shinnyo-en Foundation was established in 1994 as the philanthropic arm of a Japanese lay-Buddhist order, Shinnyo-en. The Foundation helps build more caring communities by supporting educational programs that engage and inspire young people in meaningful acts of service. The Foundation partners with non-profit organizations that share their vision for the building of a more compassionate world, and provides them with financial support and resources. The Foundation also works on its own peace-building initiatives, the newest of which is called Six Billion Paths to Peace (www.sixbillionpaths.org). This initiative challenges individuals to see how their everyday actions can contribute to the creation of a more peaceful world. For more information about hte foundation, go to www.sef.org.
