Suzan Akin
Directory / Contact Info
Suzan advises the Cal Corps public service internship programs: Cal in the Capital, Cal in Berkeley and Cal in Oakland. These programs provide students with meaningful placements in non-profit and governmental organizations in Berkeley, Oakland and Washington, D.C. She also oversees the Chan Fellows program, which places college-age scholars from China in 4-month public service internships in the Bay Area. Suzan has a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and an Ed.M. from Harvard with a specialization in Higher Education Administration.

Laura Bennett

Laura is an Assistant Director in the Center for Student Conduct and Community Standards. She began working at Cal in Fall 2009 after spending eight years in Student Life at The Colorado College. She earned a M.Ed. in College Student Services Administration from Oregon State University, and a bachelor’s degree from The University of Kansas. In addition to student conduct, her professional interests include LGBT and women’s issues, assessment, residential life, and staying current with the undergraduate student experience.

Michael Bishop

Mike oversees Cal Corps' co-curricular service-learning programs (Alternative Breaks, Cal in Berkeley, Social Issues/Social Action), its Bonner Leaders Program, and its Leadership Training Program. Mike has a B.A. in Sociology from Georgetown University and an M.A. in Education from Harvard.

Damali Burton

Damali is the Youth and Student Groups Program Coordinator for the Cal Corps Public Service Center where she manages Volunteer Managers for the K-12 services provided to community partners. She also helps coordinate recruitment and training for the Destination: College Program and oversees the Student Initiated Community Projects Grants Program. Before coming to the Cal Corps Public Service Center, Damali served as a Program Manager with City Year San Jose/Silicon Valley and as a Community Development Specialist with Girl Scouts of Utah. Damali received her B.S. in Biology from Saint Mary's College of California and a Masters of Philosophy in Experimental Pathology from the University of Utah.

Elizabeth Camacho

Amanda Carlton

Amanda Carlton is a Program Coordinator for Student Groups. Originally from Bakersfield, CA, Amanda completed her B.S. in Biomedical Engineering at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and her M.A. in Higher Education at the University of Denver. Most recently, she worked at San José State University as a Coordinator of Student Organization Development. She also has experience in the areas of student programming, fraternity & sorority life, student government, and new student orientation.

Minh Dang
Directory / Contact Info
Minh advises individual students, student groups, sororities and fraternities, and other organizations on how to develop effective service programs. She oversees Cal Corps’ Volunteer Opportunities Database and serves as the Cal Corps liaison to community based organizations and non-profits. Minh also oversees Residential Service Community, a new service program in the UC Berkeley residence halls, and training for Destination: College AmeriCorps, a program that empowers underserved Bay Area youth in California to pursue higher education. Minh graduated from UC Berkeley with a B.A. in Sociology in 2006, and was the former Director of REACH! the Asian/Pacific Islander Recruitment and Retention Center, which addresses social and economic inequalities by promoting higher education.

Glenn DeGuzman

Glenn has a wealth of experience in leadership and milticultural training and development. His primary role is to develop student-centered leadership development programs. Glenn received his B.A from UC Santa Barbara and his M.S. in Student Affairs and Higher Education from Colorado State University. He is also currently a doctoral student in Organizational Leadership at the University of Laverne.

Carrie Donovan

Carrie oversees the BUILD (Bears United in Literacy Development) program, which selects and trains Cal Work Study students to serve as literacy tutors to K-8 youth in Berkeley and Oakland. Carrie also manages the Student Initiated Community Projects grants program, through which Cal Corps sponsors and advises 30 student service groups every year. Carrie has a B.A. in Anthropology and French from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

Bernadette (Bernie) Geuy

Bernie comes to Cal from the commercial world following a lengthy career in high-technology and consulting. She has a breadth of experience that includes systems programming, network engineering, as well as in business development and services marketing. She and her team support the department's computing infrastructure. and provide analysis in the areas of process and systems improvements across CLL's components. Additionally, Bernie is responsibile for CLL's marketing vision and comunication initiatives. Bernie has a B.A. in Mass Communications from UC Berkeley.

Christina Gonzales

Christina has over ten years of broad experience working with students, staff and faculty. Some areas of experience include student conduct, critical incident response, advocacy, academic advising, residence life, student health & counseling, student government advising, budget and human resources. In this role, Christina is responsible for providing strategic leadership for two student development functions: the Center for Student Conduct and Community Standards, and Student Legal Services.

Cynthia Gordon

Cynthia brings her experience in multicultural training, antiracism, and leadership development to Cal. Her primary roles are to facilitate the Blueprint Leadership Program and co-facilitate the Future Leaders Program. She is committed to supporting students develop individual leadership skills and then apply those skills in working towards social justice. Cynthia received her B.A. from Connecticut College in Gender Studies and Psychology, her M.A. in Higher Education and Student Affairs from the Ohio State University, and her M.Ed. in Human Development and Psychology from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She is also currently a doctoral student in Human Development and Education at Harvard.

Grahaeme Hesp

Grahaeme brings over a decade's worth of award-winning experience to Cal as the Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life, providing strategic oversight and long-range planning for the entire CalGreeks community. Grahaeme has a BS in Business Administration/Human Resources and MBA, both from southern Illinois University Edwardsville and an EdD in Higher Education Administration from The Florida State University.

Maria S. Iglesia

Maria is a program coordinator in the office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, assisting with leadership development programs. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Georgia, with a major in Sociology and a minor in Child and Family Development. She also holds a Master of Education degree in Counselor Education, Student Affairs Administration from Clemson University.

Mark Lucia

Mark provides provides legal advice and information to any currently registered Berkeley student. Additionally, Mark does strategic and policy planning for CLL in the area of student program assessment. He has a B.A. in Economics, an M.J. in Journalism, and a J.D. degree, all from Berkeley.
