GenEq Internships
BEAM: Berkeley Empowerment & Antiviolence Movement

General Description:
The Gender Equity Resource Center (GenEq) is a Cal Community Center providing programs, resources and services for and about the Women’s and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) communities, as well as, sexual and hate/bias motivated harassment and violence.  GenEq is a fast-paced and dynamic work environment where we promote brave spaces for dialogue and mutual understanding.  Intern should possess those personal qualities that will aid in effectively and affably relating those who seek assistance through the GenEq. These qualities should include mature judgment, sensitivity to others, appreciation for a diverse student body, and knowledge of issues affecting women and LGBT persons.

We are looking for passionate individuals who are committed to issues of social justice and are motivated to make social change within our communities.

Among the many benefits of working at GenEq are:

  1. Learning about LGBTIQ and women's issues
  2. Working alongside others with similar passions
  3. Connecting with Cal faculty, staff and administrators
  4. Learn and/or enhance your leadership skills
  5. Flexible hours, and most important
  6. Lots of FUN.

Peer Education Programs

SHAPE Peer Education - 08-09 RECRUITMENT CANCELLED.  The SHAPE program is currently rebuilding this year.  We will not be recruiting for new interns this Fall 08.  We apologize for this inconvenience.  If you are interested in getting involved with planning Take Back the Night in April 2009, we are looking for help.  For more information, please email shape@berkeley.edu.  Please check out other internship opportunities with BEAM and VDAY.

VDAY and the Vagina Monologues 2009 is here at Berkeley!  Annually students work to produce a benefit production of Eve Ensler's "The Vagina Monologues" in order to raise awareness and funds for local organizations working to end violence against women and girls.  Come into GenEq to find out more about participating in this year's production!  Also check out the  Vagina Monologues/VDAY page .

Volunteer: We are always looking for students who are willing to volunteer.  If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Marisa at  tallgirl@berkeley.edu  or stop by GenEq at 202 Cesar Chavez.  We also have a FaceBook group called "Volunteers at GenEq" which sends out information periodically about our latest events and how to get involved.
