Program Description
Each year, through a partnership with the ASUC, Cal Corps awards sponsorship to 25-30 student groups engaged in service projects that address vital community needs. Cal Corps sponsorship provides groups with leadership training, advising, and a grant to finance their service activities.
In 1967, a coalition of student groups engaged in community service projects founded the Community Projects Office, which later became the Cal Corps Public Service Center. At the time the Student Initiated Community Projects Program was the main program of the office. It was funded entirely by the ASUC and provided specialized advising and mini-grants to sponsored student groups. The office reported to the ASUC Office of Student Affairs and had an operating budget of approximately $200,000 annually. Today, the ASUC still provides the funding for the mini-grants.
Requirements
All student organizations must be registered and their primary mission must be to provide off-campus service to under-resourced communities. For more information, please read the minimum criteria for Cal Corps sponsorship. Cal Corps sponsored groups are expected to attend a mandatory orientation, attend required leadership trainings during the year, submit Mid-Year and Year-End Progress Reports by the due date, abide by their approved budget, maintain communication with Cal Corps, and follow the budget guidelines for funded projects. Interested groups should read the details of Cal Corps sponsorship.
