For New CalParents
Congratulations on your student's admission to UC Berkeley!

Welcome to the Cal family! You and your student have exciting times ahead, and Cal Parents is your link to help, information and services during your student's years at Berkeley.

For many parents, one important change comes with college life: your student is now considered an adult, and the university communicates directly with students about deadlines, payments, housing and academic matters. Much of this information is available online, but it can only be accessed with your student's login ID and password.

Each newly admitted student has a personalized checklist of things to do to ensure a smooth transition to Berkeley -- including firm deadlines that must be met.  Students can access the checklist on our secure website, myBerkeleyApplication.

You can help by ensuring that your student logs in frequently and works through the checklist. Sample checklists are linked below, for your reference; your student's personalized checklist may have additional items.

Some additional information for parents.
  • Stay connected! Fill out the Parent Record Form
The University asks that all new students complete the Parent Record Form, which can be accessed on their checklist. While completing the form is voluntary, the information provided will help the university keep families informed about campus events, activities and programs.  We encourage you to assist your new Cal student in completing the form to help us to stay connected with you.
  • Cal Student Orientation (CalSO)
Berkeley's orientation program for new students offers sessions throughout the summer for students entering in the fall and UC Berkeley Extension Fall Program for Freshmen students, and in late fall for students entering in the spring. Each session has a concurrent program for parents and guests.  All program reservations must be made by students in advance, and space is limited. Your student can register you to attend through the CalSO website.

  • Disclosure of Information
Federal laws and University regulations protect students' rights to privacy with respect to student records. These laws and regulations may limit parental access to information that they were accustomed to receiving from their children's K-12 student records. University of California students are treated as adults with regard to control over the access to their confidential student records. Details on the university policy are available online.
