PCA Benefits

Students selected as Academy Scholars will participate in an intensive two-year program that will develop their leadership skills, strengthen their commitment to community service, and increase their competitive eligibility for admission to institutions such as UC Berkeley and other quality institutions of higher education. Benefits include:

  • Six-Week Summer Residential Academic Program at UC Berkeley before the junior year of high school
  • Summer Community Service Internship before senior year of high school, including a $1,000 stipend
  • A dedicated academic advisor throughout the junior and senior year
  • Academic and leadership development workshops and activities
  • Pre-admission college advising and application writing workshops
  • Mentoring from current college students in the Incentive Awards Program

Academy Scholars who apply to UC Berkeley during their senior year of high school and gain admission to UC Berkeley will then become Incentive Awards Scholars*. The Incentive Awards Program was established at UC Berkeley in 1992 and the program highlights include:

  • $32,000 Incentive Awards Scholarship  ($3,750 for each of eight semesters) to attend UC Berkeley
  • Meetings and workshops covering important student life topics
  • Leadership development opportunities and community-building activities
  • Special advisors in departments, such as Financial Aid and the Office of Student Life

IAP Nominee Application 2009
Deadline: check with your High School Coordinator for internal high school deadline
The 5 nominees must submit IAP Nominee Application and apply for UC Berkeley admission.

SAT/ACT Testing
Deadline: December 2009
Must take EITHER the SAT Reasoning Test OR ACT Assessment plus Writing AND two (2) SAT Subject Tests in two different areas.

7th Semester Grade Report
Deadline: Monday, February 1, 2010
Submit Fall 2009 semester grades to the IAP Office by filling out the 7th Semester Grade Report.

FAFSA Application
Deadline: Friday, February 19, 2010
The 5 nominees must complete the 2010-2011 Free Application for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA) and submit a copy to the IAP office.
