Student Network, Meetings, & Events

All Student Meeting
(MANDATORY) An All-Student Meeting is scheduled each fall and spring semester to discuss upcoming events, program changes, pertinent issues, and to provide important information on financial aid, outreach requirements, etc.  Attendance at these meetings is mandatory.  Students with legitimate excuses, i.e. conflict with a class, MUST notify the office in advance that they are not able to attend and are responsible to check in for an update.

Enrichment Workshops
Each semester, enrichment workshops will also be provided to address your student needs as you matriculate through the University.  Previous workshops have included presentations on topics such as internships, studying abroad and utilizing career services.  To make a recommendation for a specific workshop topic please contact Cristina Rojas at 643-7267.

Continuing Scholars and IAP Alumni
Beyond their freshmen year, IAP Scholars are also expected to participate in the support network especially vital to incoming freshmen. As experienced Berkeley undergraduates and Incentive Awards veterans, you are in a position to help incoming Scholars by offering to host visits to campus and by establishing buddy relationships once they are here.  When the new Scholars are enrolled as freshmen, you can help by being available to answer questions and by giving advice about how to succeed at Berkeley.  We also encourage IAP alumni to participate in these peer-mentoring activities.  In order to further facilitate this process, the IAP has developed an Externship Program where current Scholars can get introduced to the world of work by shadowing IAP Alumni.  For more information please contact the IAP Office at 510-643-1894.

Overnight Host Program
In the spring, Incentive Award finalists are invited to attend the Incentive Awards Overnight Host Program, a complete overnight residential experience and orientation to the UC Berkeley campus and the Incentive Awards Program.  The weekend is staffed with involved and knowledgeable continuing Scholars who will serve as hosts and guides during the finalistsÕ stay.  The weekend also includes a Welcome Dinner to congratulate all finalists who have been accepted to Cal for the following year.

Fall Leadership Retreat  (MANDATORY FOR FRESHMEN)
IAP provides an All Student Leadership Retreat at the beginning of the Fall Semester.  Our hope is that this event will begin to build a sense of community among students and between students and IAP staff.  This year, we will offer an overnight retreat to provide students with an opportunity to build a strong community as well as gain a greater sense of their role in the IAP family.  For those interested in participating or for more information please contact Cristina Rojas at 510-643-7267.

Donor Relations & Events
The IAP is a "high profile" program with a lot of public attention and interaction with the community.  It is also entirely funded by private donors and it is important for you to know that many individuals, foundations, and corporations are providing your scholarship support.  IAP hosts a Fall Reception, hosted by UC Berkeley’s Chancellor Robert Birgeneau, its Annual Awards Dinner, and other events where Scholars are asked to meet with donors, prospective donors, or community volunteers.
