Scholarships

The Undergraduate Scholarships, Prizes, and Honors (USPHO) unit of the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office administers three different scholarship programs under the direction of the Academic Senate Committee on Undergraduate Scholarships, Honors, and Financial Aid (CUSHFA). Admitted students are automatically considered. There is no application process other than applying for financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

The Financial Aid and Scholarships Office does not maintain a central library or website for outside scholarship searches. If you are searching for scholarships, please refer to the Outside Scholarship Resources section.

All scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit and most also require financial need.

Below are the three scholarship programs administered by the Undergraduate Scholarships, Prizes, and Honors Office:

Berkeley Undergraduate Scholarship
All Berkeley undergraduates are automatically considered for this scholarship. Eligibility is based on financial need and GPA requirements.

Regents’ and Chancellor’s Scholarship (By Invitation Only)
This is UC Berkeley's most prestigious scholarship, and is awarded annually to approximately 200 incoming undergraduates, including freshmen (for four years) and entering advanced standing students (for two years). Applicants to UC Berkeley are automatically considered for the Regents’ and Chancellor’s Scholarship. If you are among the candidates considered, you will be contacted personally by the Undergraduate Scholarships, Prizes, and Honors Office. The period of selection occurs between February and May preceding the fall semester that the student will enter UC
Berkeley.

Cal Opportunity Scholarship (By Invitation Only)
UC Berkeley's faculty established the Cal Opportunity Scholarship in 2000 with the goal of attracting to Berkeley high-achieving students who have overcome challenging socio-economic circumstances. Applicants to UC Berkeley are automatically considered for the Cal Opportunity scholarship. If you are among the candidates considered, you will be contacted personally by the Undergraduate Scholarships, Prizes, and Honors Office.
The period of selection occurs between March and April preceding the fall semester that the student will enter UC Berkeley.
