Competitive Prizes - General Rules
- Submissions must be anonymous. Submissions may be typed or printed but may not be handwritten.
- A Cal photo ID card must be shown when entries are submitted. Students must be enrolled full-time in at least one regular semester of the academic year (not including Summer Sessions). Filing for a degree does not constitute enrollment for that academic year.
- On the front of the manuscript,
in the upper right hand corner write:
Name of the contest
The last four digits of your SID number
The number of pages of your submission
- Please download and complete the UC Berkeley Prizes & Honors Office Form and submit it in-person along with your entry to 229 Sproul Hall.
- Submission to a University prize contest in no way limits the subsequent sale and publication of the material. Previously published materials, with the exception of materials that have appeared in only campus publications, are not eligible. The University does not hold itself responsible for possible loss or damage.
- Since submissions will not be returned, a copy should be retained. Winning submissions will be filed in the University Archives, Bancroft Library.
- Any prize may be withheld if, in the opinion of the judges, no entrant or submission merits the award.
- Students may enter more than one contest, but may not submit the same manuscript or portions of the same manuscript to more than one contest. Duplicate manuscripts or portions thereof will disqualify the entries. Entries to the writing contests, with the exception of the Eisner Award in Literature, may not include work that has previously won prizes in these or other campus contests.
- Only one entry may be made to each contest.
- In the event that two or more contributions of approximately the same merit are submitted for any prize, the Committee on Prizes reserves the right to apportion the award.
- Whenever any requirement is specifically expressed in connection with any of the prizes, it prevails over the general rule.
