About Your Bill
About Your Bill--Your Son's or Daughter's Bill
The office that is in charge of billing students is called Billing and Payment Services (BPS). The billing software system is called Campus Accounts Receivables (CARS).
BPS does not send paper bills to students. Instead, students are sent an email once a month telling them if there has been any activity in their account. If a new bill has been created during that time period, or if the student was issued a refund, the student will receive an email. If nothing occurred that month and there is no outstanding balance, no email will be sent. Students are responsible for checking their e-Bill. If a balance is due, BPS prefers that students and their families pay using their E-Billing system. To find out how to set up access, go to the BPS website.
Since emails are sent to the student, you will not have access to the latest balance in CARS unless your child gives you authorization to view their e-Bill. There are online presentations (warning-the sound starts playing as soon as the page displays) on the e-Billing system for students and parents.
If you are unable to pay via the E-billing method, you can mail or bring your checks to Billing & Payment Services, 140 University Hall, Berkeley Ca 94720-1101.
Here are some typical questions that parents have asked about the CARS account:
When will I know when to make a payment if my student is receiving financial aid?
Once you know exactly how much will be due for the Fall, both Registration Fees and any University Housing bills, you should be able to get an idea when to pay. The CARS statement will show what balance is still due after all financial aid has been applied. Depending on how much aid was applied to the bill, you will be able to see when the next payment is due.
Is this when I pay my parent contribution?
Your parent contribution isn't an amount that you owe it is more of an indicator of need based on a federal formula. Instead, think about what your student will need from you after all financial aid has been applied to the CARS balance.
