Fall 2012 Financial Aid Payments and Refunds

Payments

Your first Campus Accounts Receivable System (CARS) e-Bill for the fall semester will be available in late July. If you are eligible for financial aid, please note that this July CARS statement will not show your financial aid payments, including loan disbursements, for the fall semester.

The Financial Aid and Scholarships Office will begin sending financial aid disbursements for fall semester 2012 to CARS about 10 days before instruction begins, as long as you meet eligibility requirements, which include being enrolled in at least 6 units, not having any registration blocks, and not having an unresolved overaward in your aid package.

If your aid is delayed because you do not meet eligibility requirements, you can expect your aid to disburse to your CARS account after you establish your eligibility.

Refunds

If your aid disbursements exceed your CARS charges, the remaining funds will be issued as a refund as early as Thursday, August 16, 2012. An email will be sent to your email address that's listed on Bear Facts letting you know when your refund is available either via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) or as a paper check available for pickup.

Viewing Your Disbursements on MyFinAid

You can view your financial aid disbursements by logging on to MyFinAid and visiting the Award Payment Status link in the left column. Be sure to also check your Messages on MyFinAid—we may need a certain document or additional information from you in order to pay your aid. We recommend that you check MyFinAid regularly for updates.

Viewing Your Disbursements on Your Quick Statement

To see your up-to-date CARS balance, look at your Quick Statement on Bear Facts:

  1. Log on to Bear Facts.
  2. Click on the CARS link located in the top right
  3. Click on the Quick Statement/Current Balance link

Remember that your e-Bill is a monthly snapshot and will not reflect recent payment activity; however, your Quick Statement is updated daily and will reflect recent payments and any current CARS balance due. Please note that it may take up to two days for a payment noted on the MyFinAid Award Payment Status screen to be reflected in your Quick Statement on Bear Facts.

Awards from Other Departments

For questions about fellowships, departmental awards, fee waivers, and fee remissions, please contact your department or the Fellowships Office. The Financial Aid and Scholarships Office does not have information about these award disbursements.

Electronic Funds Transfer

If you have not already signed up for Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) to receive your refunds through direct deposit, sign up online today! EFT activation takes approximately 7 business days to be established, and until it is activated, paper refund checks will be printed and held for you to pick up at 140 University Hall. Remember, an email will be sent to your email address that's listed on Bear Facts letting you know when your refund is available either for pickup or EFT, so be sure to keep your contact information current!
