Work Study Eligibility
You must have financial need to be offered a Work-Study award. You must have met all the requirements for receiving financial aid that is expected of all financial aid recipients. Generally, your file must be complete, you must be in good standing with the University, and you can have no blocks.
However, just having financial need is not always enough. For example, you may have all your "financial need" being met by scholarships.
If your financial need is being met by a combination of scholarships and/or grants and subsidized loans, and no Work-Study is listed, you might be able to convert your subsidized loans to Work-Study.
If you are eligible to request a conversion, you can make this request online:
- Logon to Bear Facts and enter the Financial Aid section.
- Click on "Offer Letter."
- Once you arrive on the page entitled, "UC Berkeley Financial Aid Offer Letter," click on Accept/Decline Awards.
- From there you will eventually arrive at "Accept or Modify Your Loan and Work Awards - Step 4."
- Click on the appropriate button to request your conversion.
.Depending on the volume of requests, it will take between a few days and two weeks before you see the conversion on your Offer Letter.
If you are unable to complete this process online, contact the Financial Aid Office.
If you have a small Work-Study offer, you might be able to increase your offer if you are eligible to make an adjustment to your student budget. For more information on this process, review the Budget Appeal section of this site.
