Students with Dependents

The federal government does not allow for a "married student" or "student parent" budget. However, you can apply for a budget adjustment for the cost of childcare for children under age 14. You need to fill out a Budget Appeal and attach proof of childcare costs.

In addition, some low income graduate students who have dependent children living with them are automatically considered for a Parent Grant if the FAFSA indicates that the student has a legal dependent(s) other than a spouse. Contact the Financial Aid Office if you think you might be eligible.
